My work

My education and career has focused on a social psychology approach to the world. We as individuals impact the group/society and others (individuals, groups, institutions) impact us as individuals. How we perceive and make attributions about the world shape our reality. Research helps provide information to help inform our perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors and applying that information in our immediate contexts is an approach to informed decision making. 

I grew up in a multi-generational military, Catholic home, which has also helped shape my world view. Living in another country, visiting historic places, the concepts of diversity, inclusion, and social justice in the institutions impacting my life provided a foundation that supported the value of education (my mom was a teacher), equity, and respect for people and the planet we live on. 

My research and advocacy were based in research and personal experience as well as an understanding of identities. I have worked in areas that were considered sensitive and controversial (sexuality, gender, sexual assault), and LGBTQA+ history. I developed an interest in history, and used theatre for education. 

The world is an interesting place and there is always something more to learn!
